Job Brief

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Raw Material Inspector to join our QA/QC team. The role focuses on the inspection and verification of all incoming raw materials such as bars and hollows before they are released for production. The inspector ensures that materials conform to company quality standards, customer requirements, and applicable international codes including ISO, ASTM, EN, PED, and Aramco specifications. This position requires strong technical knowledge of metallurgical properties, the ability to interpret technical documentation, and strict adherence to quality and safety procedures. The Raw Material Inspector plays a critical role in safeguarding product quality and maintaining full traceability from receipt to production release.

Key Responsibilities

Incoming Material Inspection

  • Inspect and verify all incoming raw materials against purchase orders, material specifications, and customer requirements.

  • Conduct physical checks for labeling, heat number, lot number, and supplier identification.

  • Review packaging and transportation conditions to identify any handling damage.

Documentation & Certificate Verification

  • Review and validate Mill Test Certificates (EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2) and other supplier documentation.

  • Cross-check chemical and mechanical properties stated in certificates against specification requirements.

  • Verify compliance with customer-specific standards, including Aramco and PED requirements.

Visual & Dimensional Inspection

  • Perform surface inspections to identify cracks, dents, corrosion, laps, or inclusions.

  • Carry out dimensional checks such as length, diameter, ovality, and straightness using calipers, micrometers, tapes, and gauges.

  • Record and maintain detailed inspection and measurement data.

Material Testing & Verification

  • Conduct Positive Material Identification (PMI) using handheld analyzers.

  • Perform hardness testing as applicable to confirm conformity with standards.

  • Support NDT inspections (UT, ECT) when required to detect internal defects in billets and tubes.

  • Coordinate with laboratory technicians for additional testing when necessary.

Nonconformance Handling

  • Identify, segregate, and report nonconforming raw materials.

  • Maintain records of rejected materials and ensure proper identification and tagging.

Traceability & Record Keeping

  • Ensure accurate heat and lot number traceability from material receipt through production release.

  • Maintain inspection records, test reports, and logbooks in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 requirements.

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with procurement, warehouse, and production teams regarding material inspection status.

  • Support the Quality Process Foreman in resolving inspection-related issues.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with HSE standards during all inspection activities.

  • Use appropriate PPE while working in storage yards and production areas.

  • Report unsafe conditions or improper handling practices immediately.

Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum Diploma in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or a related discipline.

  • 3–5 years of experience in raw material inspection, preferably within the steel or alloy industry.

  • Strong knowledge of stainless steel and nickel alloy grades, heat treatment processes, and metallurgical properties.

  • Familiarity with international standards such as ASTM, ASME, EN, ISO, PED, and Aramco specifications.

  • NDT certification (UT, PT, ECT) is an added advantage.

  • Proficiency in PMI testing, hardness testing, and dimensional measurement tools.

  • Sound understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015).

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office and MES software.

  • High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to quality.
