Job Description2.1 Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) responds to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured patient, and to transport the patient to a medical facility.2.2 Ensures both personnel and vehicle readiness and availability to respond to accident or sudden illness or emergencies.Responsibilities3.1 Responds to medical and surgical emergency calls, accompany the ambulance driver to the scene and provides basic life support to the victims before they are transported to the hospital.3.2 Evaluates the nature and extent of illness or injury to determine the right course of actions. Conduct patient assessment, including interpretation of ECG.3.3 Provides medical aid such as AED, CPR, prevention of spinal damage, airway and ventilation management, control severe bleeding, prevent shock, bandaging wounds, and splinting fractures, in order to stabilize the patient’s condition.3.4 Administration of activated charcoal, oral glucose and oxygen as per hospital guidelines.3.5 Continued assessment of the patient during transport to the emergency facility, and the administration of additional care to the patient as indicated or directed by medical control.3.6 Maintains operational and functional readiness of medical equipment, consumables and drugs as per daily and monthly ambulance checklists.3.7 Restock all supplies in the ambulance and replaces used blankets, linens and other supplies.3.8 Cleans all equipment following appropriate disinfecting protocols.3.9 Continuously reassures the patient during transfer to the emergency facility.3.10 Works closely with communication officers, field supervisors, emergency department and other hospital personnel, the police department, the fire department, and other individuals, to deliver basic emergency and non-emergency medical services to the public.3.11 Respond to calls from communication dispatcher, use appropriate radio communication skills and read and interpret GPS maps.3.12 Assists in lifting, carrying, transporting patients to ambulance and to a medical facility, reassuring patients and bystanders, avoiding mishandling patient and undue haste, and to provide additional emergency care following established protocols.3.13 Assists and conducts medical events, home and hotel visits as per hospital guidelines and policies.3.14 Follow established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, safety, environmental, and infection control standards in the performance of duties.3.15 Conducts scene size-up.3.16 Conducts primary and secondary survey according to the BLS principles.3.17 Measurement, interpretation and recording of vital signs.3.18 Open and maintain airway by positioning the patient's head.3.19 Proper use of oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway devices.3.20 Ventilate with a non-invasive positive pressure delivery device.3.21 Perform tracheobronchial tube suctioning on endotracheal intubated patient.3.22 Provide CPR and rescue breathing for infant, children, and adults according to the BLS principles.3.23 Provide care for soft tissue injuries and control bleeding through direct pressure.3.24 Immobilization techniques, using spinal board, cervical collar, and splints.3.25 Obtain capillary blood specimen for blood glucose monitoring.3.26 Administer epinephrine by subcutaneous injection or automatic injection device for anaphylaxis according to hospital policy.3.27 Administer aspirin for suspected myocardial infarction according to protocol.3.28 Perform defibrillation with an automatic external defibrillator.3.29 Functions within the scope of practice as defined by state, region and local regulatory agencies.3.30 Complies with regulations on the handling of the deceased, notifies authorities and arranges for protection of property and evidence at the scene.3.31 Complete and document all ambulance forms as per hospital guidelines and ambulance transfer policy.3.32 Maintain and update ambulance register regarding ambulance transfers.3.33 Strictly adheres to organization’s regulations and policies especially those related to infection control, patient safety, OSHMS, DOH and JCI and to attend in-service training and to report any incidents or near miss.3.34 Supports continuous Quality Improvement projects, participates and contributing to all the quality assurance activities of the service.3.35 Maintains confidentiality as per the agreement signed.3.36 Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.3.37 Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them.3.38 Assist management during potential emergency situations such as Code Red, Code Orange and Code Blue events.3.39 Identify, label and maintain hazardous materials, MSDS and its current inventory.3.40 Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (gloves, face shield, goggle’s, respirators, apron etc.)3.41 Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements3.42 Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities3.43 Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures3.44 Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports3.45 Comply with Waste management procedures and policies3.46 Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs3.47 Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems
