Job Overview:
The Chief Steward is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the kitchen and dining area in a catering company. They ensure the cleanliness, organization, and overall efficiency of the work environment, ensuring all food service areas comply with safety, sanitation, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise the stewards and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
Manage the cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and dining areas.
Oversee inventory management for kitchen supplies and cleaning materials.
Ensure compliance with food safety and health regulations.
Coordinate with chefs and other kitchen staff to maintain a clean and organized kitchen.
Handle scheduling and staffing for the kitchen crew.
Ensure that the dining service area is prepared and set up for each event or catering order.
Provide leadership and training to junior kitchen staff.
Assist with managing waste and recycling practices in the kitchen.
Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the management.
Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience in kitchen management or as a steward in a catering or restaurant environment.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Good communication skills.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Certification in food safety or kitchen management (a plus).
